Joseph M. Miller was born and raised in Scott, Louisiana in Lafayette Parish.

 

Joe completed his undergraduate studies in Political Science/Pre-Law at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2003 where he finished Magna Cum Laude and was voted by the faculty as Outstanding Graduate in Political Science/Pre-Law.

 

After completing his undergraduate studies at UL-Lafayette, he attended Loyola University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor Degree in May 2006 with the Honorable Distinction Cum Laude.

 

While at Loyola Law School, Joseph served as Articles Editor of the Loyola Law Review and published "Federal Preemption and Preclusion: Why The Federal Railroad Safety Act Should Not Preclude The Federal Employer's Liability Act," 51 Loy. L. Rev. 947 (2006).  This article has been cited in numerous case opinions and secondary legal sources on the issue of preclusion in FELA cases.
